Now, a little about me-

Animals and Nature, are my two passions in life.
I am inspired to paint the essence of an animal's personality and expression, which is reflected in the eyes first. They are the Windows to the Soul, and when I capture that unique aspect of an individual animal, the rest flows easily.
In my landscapes, I seek to capture not what I see, as I rarely work from a referrence, but rather from my imagination, based on my own life travels, and how I envision a peaceful, beautiful setting.

I am self taught, and have been painting for approximately 5 years. I have been commissioned both Domestically as well as Internationally. As my artistic journey leads me to reach higher, raising the bar with each new work, I get the greatest satisfaction from my client's joyful reactions! There is nothing better, in my opinion, than to create a beautiful piece of art, that relates somehow to the viewer. I hope you will find that connection with one of my pieces, and if not, I am available for commissions as well!

STEPS to Order a custom portrait of YOUR beloved Tail Wagging friend-

1.) I work from your emailed photos. I will need several large Jpegs(if available). Crisp and clear large file sized images are best to achieve detail and expression. Please don't take photos with a flash, as this doesn't allow for exacting color or expression. Rather, take the photos outside, in the shade, at eye level with your pet(NOT pointing the camera down from above).

2.) Decide on your custom portrait's size and your pet's pose. Also, do you want a detailed background or a blended background(detailed is quoted per request, blended is included in price). See pricing below.
Do you want just the head and neck of your pet, or would you like a full body portrait?(Full body not available on 8 x 10). If you cannot decide on a pose, don't worry, I can help!

3.) Email your request for a commmission to byates@elp.rr.com, with 'Commission Request' in the subject line. Please attach( as file attachment), your pet's photos.

4.) I will respond promptly. After we come to terms concerning size, price and time frame to complete your portrait (I can usually complete and ship within two weeks), I will require a 50% deposit, via my Paypal account, to begin work on your portrait. Shipping is quoted per commission, and must be paid before portrait can be shipped) I offer you continuing updates during the entire process of painting your pet's custom portrait(small changes can be made along the early stages if you deem necessary for color, etc. to be exact). I strive for your complete satisfaction!

5.)Upon completion of your pet's custom portrait, I will email you a final 'proof' for your acceptance. Upon your acceptance, the balance for the portrait, as well as the shipping quote is then due. When funds are verified through Paypal, I will ship your portrait.(shipping is quoted at the time of our agreement.)

ALL portraits are painted by hand, using Pastels on Ampersand Pastelbord. This is a very rigid surface, which requires no backing.
Blended backgrounds in a complimenting color, are included in your price.

8 x 10- single subject/head and neck only in this size- $185.00 (US)

Blended backgrounds are included.
Detailed backgrounds are quoted per request.

Policies-
A 50% deposit of your portrait's price is required before I begin your portrait.
I will not refund deposits, once I have begun your portrait. Please understand that painting a portrait takes time and supplies, so I must retain deposits for any time I have spent and materials used.

I will ship via USPS. Priority mail within the US. International shipping will be discussed at time of portrait inquiry.

Your portrait will be framed, behind glass, and will be packaged carefully, to prevent any damage during shipment. The frames I use are inexpensive frames, and while they are fine for displaying your pet's portrait, please understand they are mainly for the sake of shipping. My framing your pet's portrait helps to ensure it's safe arrival to you!. If you choose to reframe your pet's portrait, please handle the portrait carefully, as Pastel can smudge if handled improperly. I recommend seeking the advice of a professional framer for any reframing.

As the Artist, I retain ALL copyrights to my work, including your pet's portrait. This means you may NOT reporoduce, in any way, the portrait, or any image of the portrait.
I MAY use images of the portrait for print sales, which I will discuss with you at the time of your inquiry.
Any questions or concerns about my policies should be addressed before your deposit is received.

Having trouble finding the funds in this economy? I will consider a payment plan for you! Please understand your portrait cannot be shipped until whatever balance is ,has been payed in full. If you are in need of payments, please make that known during our initial discussions.
